A round of applause finished off the Executive meeting this morning - prompted by the terrific news that the team is complete!
Yes, after many requests and more than a little gentle persuasion, Jenny Grassom has agreed to be co-opted to the Executive Committee and we are delighted that we will have the benefit of her company at our meetings from now on. It also means that the Forest of Dean is represented once again, for although we don't elect/co-opt members on the basis of where they live, it's always helpful to have members from all over the county.
Welcome Jenny, and thank you for agreeing to become the twelfth member of the Executive Committee.
Gloucestershire Denman Rep Sue Wilson and I were chairing at our college this weekend, and what fun we had! A great bunch of students in residence - as always - so there was a lively atmosphere and plenty of chatter.
It was good to see the hall redecorated and new furnishings in place - very smart it looks too. I think there are one or two finishing touches to put into place, still, but the new chairs are comfortable and the whole of the bar/drawing room/hall looks very classy indeed. The colours chosen for the decoration are from a lovely warm cream/ochre/terracotta/burgundy palette and though the furnishings are contemporary in style, they blend well with the style of the existing rooms.
Good to see so many first-time students there as well. Of course, the old Denman magic always means that anyone arriving alone on Friday leaves with fifty or more new friends on Sunday, and there were lots of fond farewells and "hope to see you again soon".
I got my copy at last this morning, having heard about it arriving here and there since last week. My Mum got hers last Friday and couldn't wait to ring and tell me that she thinks it's great and has found it an interesting read; she didn't take Home and Country, so also felt that it was a bonus to receive it without paying extra. Having had a quick look through myself, I think it's a pretty good first issue. I especially like the book group page and think that the photography and production of the magazine overall are of an extremely high quality.
I'm looking forward to sitting down with it for a longer read later - not always something I did with my H & C!
Nice to see GFWI mentions, by the way - Margaret's piece about The Shires and Winchcombe's knitting project featured, too. Don't forget to send anything of interest to WI Life as soon as you can, so that the editor can keep the magazine topical and up to date!
I thought the resolutions meeting this morning was excellent and really enjoyed meeting so many friends at such a purposeful event. Quite thought provoking - I went away with all kinds of things whirling around in my head and wonder if those of you who shared a car journey found yourselves talking over the issues discussed.
Pam and the Public Affairs committee did a great job of presenting this annual event in a different format, don't you think? Good to see so many members there, too!
